Former Bolton centre back Tal Ben Haim has signed for Manchester City, for a fee thought to be around £5 million. The Israeli played 88 times for the Wanderers before joining Chelsea`s subs bench before the start of last season.
‘I am very happy to join one of the greatest clubs in the world. I needed a new challenge,’ said Ben Haim – as he completed the move to Stamford Bridge in 2007, ‘I am looking forward to starting the new season with Champions League football.’
His delight didn`t last long. ‘If I knew Avram Grant was going to be the coach I would have signed for another club,’ he complained the following April.
Yesterday, the stroppy Israeli was taking a realistic view of his move to Eastlands. ‘I want to win things with this club and I know for many years that hasn’t happened. It’ll be hard and it takes time to build something,”
It certainly does Tal, but you`ll have to cut back on those yellow cards if your new club is to qualify for Europe via the fair play league again. Can we assume that you`ve given up the idea of Champions League football now?
