Draw The Right Result As Bolton Come From Behind Again

|

Kieran Sadlier scored a second half penalty to earn a draw with Portsmouth.

Both teams were going into this with incredibly slim play-off chances, but we were able to at least bring Declan John in at left-back, allowing the back three of Gethin Jones, Ricardo Santos and George Johnston to reunite – Jones playing his first home game since returning from compassionate leave. It was a decent first half, but weren’t able to take the chances created, Aaron Morley shanked an effort, while visiting goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu denied Dapo Afolayan before Dion Charles put a shot wide. It was another night where Charles drew a blank, which is starting to be a bit concerning, but it certainly hasn’t affected his work rate.

Santos came off at half time, which may have have unsettled things at the back, with Aiden O’Brien scoring shortly after the break. In fact it turns out all three subs made were due to hamstring injuries – with Afolayan and Kyle Dempsey coming off later in the evening, We deserved something from the game though, and having a penalty turned down, Elias Kachunga was eventually given a decision and Sadlier got the nod ahead of Charles to put it past Bazunu.

Overall, it was a fairly evenly matched game between two teams next to each other in the league, it was a decent watch even if there felt a bit of an end of season vibe to it. In any case, 1-1 was the right result. Results on Saturday could well officially end any hope of promotion.
