Highlights and Reaction As Bolton Get A Decent Point At Sunderland

|

Bolton made it a four point haul from their last two games as they held Sunderland to a goalless draw at the Stadium of Light yesterday.

Despite Sunderland’s awful form under Phil Parkinson, it has mainly draws rather than defeats at home for them, and our away form probably still made the Mackems favourites, but we would go on to take a point and frustrate the home players and fans.

There was also some worries about the team selection – Keith Hill named the same team that beat Southend on Saturday, The old adage goes that you don’t change a winning side, but we were weak with defending set-pieces at the weekend, and Liam Bridcutt out of position would have to cope with long balls to Charlie Wyke all afternoon. It worked yesterday though, although Remi Matthews would be called upon to make a couple of saves. However, so did his Sunderland counterpart Jon McLaughlin. clawing Daryl Murphy’s effort off the line and making a couple of saves from Ronan Darcy.

After the Accrington debacle, that’s two respectable performances away from home, even if it has only yielded a point. Our next trips are to Rochdale and Lincoln, hopefully we get some more points on the board from those two games to try and secure a platform for safety.
