Is Kevin Nolan Mad?

Bolton captain Kevin Nolan reckons the club is on target for a top ten finish. This seems to be a tad optimistic given that the Whites are third from bottom with eight points from thirteen games.

‘I certainly believe we’ll be in the top ten come the end of the season,’ said the Premier League`s most immobile midfielder.

‘I can see what’s been going on over the last couple of weeks and I’ve seen the quality of players we have here,’ he continued.

The ‘quality` of the players is the problem. The list of squad members who are either past their best or just not good enough is depressingly long. Nicky Hunt, Ricardo Gardner, Stelios, Ivan Campo, Gary Speed, Gavin McCann, Jlloyd Samuel, Abdoulaye Meite, Gerald Cid, Daniel Braaten, Christian Wilhelmsson and Nolan himself for starters.

If that judgment sounds a little gloomy then bear in mind that Bolton have won just five of the last 30 league games. Survival is going to be difficult, talk of a top ten finish ludicrous. It maybe that Nolan is simply contributing to the endless stream of PR drivel that emanates from the Reebok these days. Either that or someone`s spiked his pies.
