Robert Wilson assesses a few players Neil Lennon has been looking at bringing into BWFC

It’s been almost 2 months since the end of the 14/15 championship season and with Bolton finishing in a miserable and worrying 18th place; Lennon certainly needs to strengthen the squad in more places than one.

In the news recently Bolton Wanderers have been linked with veteran and experienced attacking midfielder David Dunn. Towards the end of last
season Lennon clearly outlined the fact that Bolton have had many injuries in the previous season and need to freshen up the squad with players
who can play at least 30 games a season, this comes as a surprise to see Dunn potentially put on a Bolton Wanderers shirt instead of the colours of
Blackburn Rovers, whom he has had over 300 appearances and scored 50
goals for. David Dunn has been a Blackburn Rovers hero, having served two stints with the club, he was an incredible servant for them in the
centre of midfield.

Playing in the Championship is a tough ask for any player, not even to mention a near retiring 35 year old. With over 40 games to be played in a season it’s a worry to see that Dunn has not made more than 30 appearances in a season since 2007/2008 Premier League campaign. Last year Dunn made a total of 12 appearances for Blackburn, with rumours flying around that he is set to leave Blackburn and maybe retire after what some could say was an influential career, fans must have thought he would be the last player Neil Lennon would sign.

To see Dunn set join Bolton puts our financial and status as a club in perspective, to just only attract players who are on their way out of the
game makes the fans extremely worried to see whether this season is going to be another one down at the bottom of the table.

However Lennon could be making a few great additions to the squad in the near future; DeAndre Yedlin, a lightning quick right back has been allowed to leave Tottenham Hotspur on loan in search of first team football, Yedlin starred in the USA’s incredible run in the World Cup and with the likes of Tim Ream and fellow American Stuart Holden in amongst the Bolton training ground Neil Lennon could well pull off the signing of hot prospect Yedlin. Another player who has been thrown into the mix of potential signings is Alfred Finnbogason; the Icelandic striker from top flight Spanish club Real Sociedad has been looked at by scouts from the Trotters. Finnbogason an incredible finisher, alongside Yedlin would be two players who would certainly improve the first team.

Now to the question in the title; yes Lennon is mad in signing David Dunn, but can he become a genius? With the faith from not only the board but
the supporters I do think Lennon can sign two incredible talents in Yedlin
and Finnbogason.

It’s going to be nail biting stuff towards the start of the upcoming season to see who the manager has got in place for a push for a top half
finish, however it looks like Lennon has the mentality and patience to bring in top quality players in this transfer window.
