Jaaskelainen – superman?

Everyone’s lining up to hail (good, journalistic word) Bolton keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen.

Big Sam was impressed.

‘I know I’m biased but I don’t know who is better,’ said Big Sam when someone asked him to compare the Big Finn with Chelsea’s Petr Cech.

‘The more clean sheets you get, the higher you are going to finish. The team who win the championship are the team with the most clean sheets, not the ones who score the most goals.’

Kevin Nolan was also pleased with the stopper’s efforts.

‘He was outstanding. I’m just glad we got him to sign on for the next few years. Jussi is up there with whoever is the best in the Premiership. I certainly wouldn’t swap him for anyone else.’

On Jaaskelainen’s wonder save from Cahill, Nolan added: ‘I did see the touch but he does that every day in training.’

Is he the best? Maybe. His kicking can be poor at times and he can sometimes be a bit suspect on crosses but he is probably the best shot stopper there is.
