Tottenham Hotspur defender and permanent sick note Ledley King has left the England training set up and returned to his club, showing what a gormless decision it was to select him in the first place. King is a fine player and worth his place in the squad if fully fit. A pity that he never is and probably never will be.

Not that England managers making decisions that defy logic is anything new. Sven Goran Eriksson. selected Theo Walcott for the last World Cup, despite him not having played for Arsenal. The bods at FA headquarter might want to lock up the secretaries, just in case Fabio Cappello shares any more of the Swede`s habits.

Despite King`s departure, Bolton`s Gary Cahill, will not be joining the training camp.
