Megson : Only Two People Played Well

Manager Gary Megson has expressed disappointment at his players after Bolton were comfortably beaten at Fulham.

‘I think the only decent performers we had on the pitch today were probably Bibi Gardner and Kevin Davies and when you`ve got just two people playing well then you`re going to struggle to win any game,` he said, when interviewed by Sky Sports.

Equally worrying was his assertion that there is a lack of spirit among the players : ‘I thought the first ten, fifteen minutes we set off fine. The first goal, as invariably happens changed it, and then it gave Fulham an extra yard in their step and took the wind out of our sails a little bit, and to be perfectly honest it wasn`t a good afternoon for anybody.`

Those who saw the defeat against Northampton in the Carling Cup will be familiar with that scenario.

The Bolton boss was also critical of his team`s effort, even though they pulled back a goal close to the end to add a veneer of respectability to the result : ‘We didn`t play with enough energy and impetus, right the way through the game. Towards the end, when we`ve made it 2-1 we`ve run out of legs anyway because of the effort we`ve had to put in to get to that point, but we had chances in the first ten, fifteen minutes. We didn`t take any of them and once it got to 1-0, they`ve got some good players in their team and they kept the ball well and probably had another couple of chances they could have scored from themselves, but it was a poor afternoon for us.`
