Much belated- I needed time to recover

Sorry it’s taken so long to get round to these- here we go: player ratings from Saturday night’s Halloween clash.

Ben Amos-6
Didn’t have all that much to do- made a few smart stops and distribution was alright.

Derik Osede-4
Hate to say, but it was an embarrassing performance from our fancy Real Madrid imported ‘ball playing defender’. He’s a centre back and looked totally unconvincingly right back and was frantic on the ball. There are people crying out for us to play one of our two new right backs and I agree with them- that said Lawrie Wilson to me looks out of his depth in the Championship (but then again, so does most of the team at the moment) and Francesco Pisano has had a very worrying start to his Wanderers career.

Dorian Dervite-6
A reasonable return to the team from the Frenchman- he won some headers but didn’t see a lot of the ball. Did little wrong though.

David Wheater-7
He throws everything he can behind the ball and that’s great. He’s long and so there’s a lot of him to get behind the ball and was fearless as he blocked to powerful Daniel Johnson efforts. However, the way he plays means that the only way he thrives is when we’re being dominated and he’s making those blocks.

Jose Casado-6
Did not miss a beat in defence and is one of few who really look up to the challenge. He’s got a good left foot, but unfortunately was sloppy on the ball at times with it.

Jay Spearing-7
A battling performance from a true fighter- also displayed some lovely passing with his free kick headed over by Ameobi and his left footed ball for Clayton included.

Darren Pratley-5
Looked like a hybrid of the clumsy Darren Pratley of old and the amazing superman that we saw last year. More of the latter, please.

Josh Vela-5
Many gave the Salfordian rave reviews following this match but I really wasn’t convinced. He struggled to get into the game and impose himself. I think he should play at right back and I know there are people who disagree.

Liam Feeney-5
I genuinely have no clue as to what position he played in but it was weird and I don’t like him doing that. Just because he can’t cross does not mean he has the qualities required to play centrally. He needs to work on his end product or he has no place in this division.

Max Clayton-6
Always a willing (and quick!) runner and it’s nice to have him back. Needs to get more involved in games though. We really lack Chung Yong Lee who could play the balls so expertly through for him. He’s got the quality, just needs team mates who can bring the best out of him.

Shola Ameobi-6
Had a quiet-ish game but worked hard and laid the ball off nicely for his team mates. Not a bad player at this division but he cannot be relied upon so much. He’s the wrong player for the wrong club in my opinion but we can afford no better.

Subs

Neil Danns-5
No idea why he was brought on.

Gary Madine-6
Worked hard, unlucky not to score.

Francesco Pisano-3
Came on and looked panicky. Not what we need and was even worse than Derik.
