Vital Crewe get us on the right track when it comes to learning about the Railwaymen

Bolton face their opening, and hopefully not their last Carabao Cup tie of the season on Wednesday when they travel to League 2 side Crewe Alexandra. Steve Johnson of our sister site Vital Crewe was kind enough to answer a few quick questions to fill us in.

We’ve only seen one league game so far this season, but how would you gauge the feeling around Crewe at the moment?

The feeling is far more positive than it has been in previous years with David Artell and Kenny Lunt at the helm. I suppose that a draw with the League 2 pre-season favourites according to the bookies Mansfield Town at the weekend will keep the feeling positive.

How would you expect Crewe to approach the tie? Will they make changes or would you expect to see a strong lineup?

I can’t see any changes from our line-up on Saturday as we are pretty much down to the bare bones as it is. The only player that is likely to come in would be Zoumana Bakayago, although the full-back is recovering from a knee injury that has stopped him from playing a minute of pre-season.

Who is the one Crewe player we should particularly watch out for?

The player to look out for is winger George Cooper who set up both goals at the weekend. Hopefully we’ll play a little higher up the pitch tomorrow night as he spent most of the second half as more of a wing-back than regular wide-man.

And finally, what’s your prediction?

I’m absolutely useless at these but think that you’ll edge it 2-1. Hopefully we can do what we did last season where we edged out your fellow Championship new boys Sheffield United.
