Good news or bad news? You tell me

Two snippets of news coming out of the Reebok today, but first let me thank Aussiemike for his article this morning.

I think the news from our football club today is both ‘good’ and ‘bad’. I put the ‘good’ and ‘bad’ in inverted commas because what I (and I’m assuming the club) deem as good and bad news may not be your particular view.

The first of the disclosures comes in the form of Andy Lonergan remaining our no.1 ‘keeper, even after Adam Bogdan is deemed fully-fit… for the Reading game at least.

Our Hungarian shot-stopper has been out of action since October, since which Lonergan has snatched his opportunity with both gloved hands. His performances in that time have been very good, so much so, Dougie has taken the commanding decision to keep Andy between the sticks.

Good news?

The second bit of news comes as no surprise. We knew Jermaine Beckford was injured, the only thing Whites’ fans were holding their breath on was the extent and subsequent duration of the injury incurred.

The way Beckford pulled up instantly informed supporters, the hamstring was compromised. Now, we’ve been told, 3 weeks is the time needed for it to heal. Not a disastrous result, considering the hamstring was involved. but when you discover the games Jermaine will miss in that time, it feels like 3 months.

If you didn’t know the games he will miss- Reading, Cardiff, QPR and Ipswich.

I know Beckford has split opinion since his arrival at the Reebok, but whether you like him or not, he’s our top scorer and still the biggest goal threat amongst our ranks.

Bad news?

Obviously, the news isn’t great. But I’m glad it’s only 3 weeks and we aren’t gunning for promotion this year, are we?. I also hope, if there was any umming and ahing before this injury struck, this news now definitely kicks our recruitment into action.

As always, I’m trying to see a silver lining around an ugly looking cloud.

Please, tell me what you think. I sit waiting; brew in hand…
