Team News and Preview of Bolton v Portsmouth

|

Bolton host Portsmouth tomorrow, in a game that was meant to be played last Saturday.

International call-ups, both with our quartet plus a number of opposition players, meant a new date was needed and that will be tomorrow night, as both teams look to keep their mathematical, although unrealistic hopes of a top six finish alive.

Team news

Declan John missed the weekend’s draw down the road with a back injury and won’t be involved tomorrow. Kieran Lee’s recovery may take a bit longer than was anticipated too, while Dapo Afolayan and Kyle Dempsey are carrying knocks.

Possible XI: Trafford; Aimson, Almeida Santos, Johnston; Jones, Williams, Fossey, Sadlier; Kachunga; Charles, Bodvarsson

Last time

Our last home game against Portsmouth came in January 2020, with us losing 1-0. Defender Christian Burgess scored just before half time, and even though we had more of the second half chances, we couldn’t find an equaliser.

The opposition

Portsmouth have had another decent season in League One, but it looks like another one where they’ll miss out on that elusive promotion. They’re only above us on goal difference but have two games in hand. The pacy Marcus Harness has 11 goals for them this season, making it two seasons in a row in which he has reached double figures, while Irish international Ronan Curtis has five goals and seven assists.

Prediction

It should be a close game between two teams who have spent good chunks of the season in similar positions in the table. If we can play like we did in the second half on Saturday though, we should be able to get the win which would take us above them in the table. 2-1
