The ‘Capital One Cup’ aka league cup, which it always is in my book, rolls into town on Tuesday with Bolton looking to avoid a first round upset against Bury.

Dougie Freedman is likely to field the likes Andy Kellett, Chris Lester and Conor Wilkinson, among other youngsters, as he changes things around following the three-nil defeat at Watford to start the championship season.

Mark Davies (toe injury) will continue to sit out for Wanderers though but Joe Mason should make his ‘third debut’ for the club following his season-long loan return.

Bury could give new signing James Poole a full debut after he came on for the league 2 side in their league opener on Saturday with Shwan Jalal expected to keep his place in goal ahead of Rob Lainton.

If the pattern of recent league cup meetings between these sides go then it will be Bury piling more pressure on Freedman as the away side has won in each of the last three league cup meeting with, worryingly, the home side failing to find the net in the process!

Records, and omens, are there to be broken though and all that….

Mr Ecky and Nicky Crompton are still, for now, having a staff writer to help fill in!
