The Real Deal

Over a year ago, Dougie Freedman said he had given the Bolton fans a nugget, in the shape of Andre Moritz – his present to us, no thanks necessary. Well, we all know now that this particular nugget turned out to be merely ‘fool’s gold’!

No!…..The real deal that Dougie gave to us, before his timely demise, is still living and breathing at the Macron Stadium. I am of course, talking about our centre-back, Dorian Dervite. Thank you Dougie, for unearthing this veritable ingot! A super signing indeed!

With each match, as he beds into the team and his surroundings, he gets better and better. For the last few matches, I thought he produced ‘man of the match’ performances. He has become a rock at the centre of our defence. So much so, that we don’t need Craig anymore!

Like our friend Dawson, he is intelligent and reads the game well. He covers fellow defenders; fills in holes; is good and strong in the air and tries to keep the ball on the ground as much as possible. What more could we ask!

Well, before he came, we knew that he was a ball-playing defender, and certainly saw signs of that early on. But Neil Lennon, in the short time he has been with us, has obviously encouraged this aspect of his game, and told him to get forward with the ball at every opportunity. He is doing that to great effect!

What a breath of fresh air! Against Brentford, he was the ‘new Beckenbauer’! He had a blinder! And hopefully, under this management, and with more games under his belt, he is going to improve further still. An exciting prospect indeed!

Overall at the back, when Tierney, Hird and Wheater recover from their injuries, we will have sound options and a competent defence. One that certainly should be capable of holding its own in this league, no problem!

I just hope the powers that be, as we speak, are scouring the country for a winger and a goal poacher. Because boy, do we need them! I believe that if and when we acquire those players, we will confidently move up the table…..
