The Sad Tale of Whining Willy

There`s nothing more dismal than a failed footballer who blames others for his lack of prowess. So it is with Christian Wilhelmsson, who was in full on whinge mode this week as he reflected on his time at the Reebok.

‘At Bolton we played a style of football that was too heavily based on physical strength, that was not right for me,’ he said. ‘Then when the new manager, Gary Megson, came in and got us using the long-ball game even more, I knew it was time for me to leave.’

Bolton fans were split over Wilhelmsson. Some agreed it was time for him to leave. Others thought that he should never have arrived in the first place. Never was a player less suited to the English game. The Swede was lightweight and couldn`t cross or go past players. Fatal flaws for a winger. Granted, he was handy for pace, but so is the Road Runner. It`s doubtful that Gary Megson will be approaching Warner Brothers about a transfer.

Wilhelmsson would do well to stop snivelling and be grateful that he was paid handsomely for his brief, inconsequential time at Bolton. After all, it isn`t the first time that he failed. Just ask AS Roma.
