Time For Reinforcements

|

Have you ever played in midfield? Are you free on Tuesday night? Bring your boots. you might come in use.

After the last few days, and certainly Saturday afternoon at Wycombe, our midfield is looking almost non-existent. For a start, Antoni Sarcevic was allowed to leave, then we’ve had MJ Williams’ illness, then subsequent injury yesterday. Josh Sheehan is also out for the season, while Andrew Tutte, who might be the closest thing we have to a Williams back-up, also has had injury problems,

In a spell where Ian Evatt has undercome some criticism, and some of it justifiable, it does however show that he has done a decent job. This is a side that has quality in patches but is short of a top six challenge. Some Wanderers fans probably expect more, and long term everyone will want us back in the Championship eventually, but the best chance we’ve got of achieving that is by improving the squad. Given the mixture of the Sarcevic departure and the key injuries, plus the Dennis Politic contract situation, it might be that we have to go and being in a entirely new midfield trio in January – even if one or two of them are loanees.

Again, it seems once Williams  departed on Saturday, it was the cue for us to lose our way, although we had given away a first half penalty long before Sam Vokes would score the only goal of the game.

It could be a rough ride through the start of the January transfer window.
