Wanderers News Round-Up

So, what did I miss? Contracts have been offered to Sam Sheridan, Rob Lainton and our current talent for the future Tope Obadeyi. Of those released the two big names were Zoltan Harsanyi, one of Big Sam`s lesser acquisitions, and Ricardo Vaz Te, which has come as a shock as most people believed that he had been released in 2005. The Badger is at the end of his contract and will be gone as soon as the manager realises that our nocturnal chum has been masquerading as a footballer for the past three years.

As it should be, T`Wanderers held their end of season award ceremony at the actual end of the season rather than a week or two weeks before as some clubs do. Unsurprisingly Lee Chung-Yong scooped more gongs than Mr Softy at the Ice Cream Convention. He was undoubtedly the player of the year and was so far ahead of everyone by the time of the change of manager it was a no contest. Following on from this he won Best Newcomer, as voted by the fans. This again was pretty obvious and was helped by the complete lack of competition. I mean, would you vote for Paul Robinson? He also won the Player`s Player. Well, Super Kev can`t win it every year.

Bolton also announced a three game tour of the USA with one game against an MLS side, although the MLS side are Canadian so I don`t know if that counts as a major game. The other two games are against sides that either sound like an illegal act, Charleston Battery, or a girl I dated in the fourth year, Charlotte Eagles. I actually tried both of them at the same time. It didn`t turn out well.

Anyway, is it too much to ask that we go to a country and play a team that may give us a game? Flying to the States is all well and good, but when we get there we are playing the ‘soccer` equivalent of the Durham Bulls. I know that we aren`t going to get invited to the Emirates Cup anytime soon, but one of these teams plays on the grounds of a school. A school whose most notable alumni plays in a band who once played with Taylor Swift. Not that way. Why go to the bother of travelling across the pond? I`m sure Bolton Grammar can give us a game. It will save on the pennies and more of us can go and see it.

In transfer news, whilst there is not much going on with Gary Cahill exiting the club, rumours are that St Owen is planning on moving for Gareth McCauley of Ipswich Town to “maybe” replace him if he “maybe” leaves. This does seem like replacing a BMW with a Lada. Although as Roy Keane wants rid, it must show a good side to his character. Rangers are also interested, so let`s hope he goes there.

And finally, it`s not often that our permanently scowling goalkeeper talks to the press, but now that he has, he has managed to stick the boot into the former manager. “Megson Was Not Suitable” he tells the former BEN. However, Jussi only reckons that it was his inability to win over the fans that made him unsuitable and not his inability to change a game. Or develop a tactic other than find SuperKev with the long ball. Or stop telling us we didn`t know what we were talking about. Or attend any fans forums. Or admit he was wrong. Or not be ginger.
