Bolton`s Kevin Davies has echoed the sentiments of many supporters as regards the play-acting and diving that plagues today`s game.

‘There seems to be an attitude with some teams that you’re not allowed to tackle them,’ Davies told The Sun.

‘Football is a contact sport, a man’s game – but now you’re getting people like Cristiano Ronaldo throwing his arms in the air if he gets tackled instead of getting up and getting on with it.

‘In the game against United at our place, I made one challenge on Evra which I got a yellow card for and he made a couple from behind that went unpunished.

‘I wasn’t rolling around on the floor, screaming and pretending to be injured. But then we had an accidental clash of heads – and it was accidental – and he was play-acting, trying to get me sent off.”

Davies is as good as his word. He suffered a fractured-cheek bone against Charlton last season, stayed on his feet and played on, until he was sent off, a victim of the play acting that he`s rightly critical of.

Most fans are embarrassed by the theatrics of today`s players. Ronaldo may be up for player of the season, but he should also have been nominated for an Oscar. If more players had the attitude of Kevin Davies, then professional football would be far better for it.
