The owners have reached a deal

It finally happened. On Friday evening, a club statement announced that Dean Holdsworth and Ken Anderson had reached an agreement to transfer the former’s shares the latter, and end what had become an uneasy relationship at times.

Firstly, and this is not a shot against anybody involved with the current running of the club, but after the situation we found ourselves in around 12 months ago, and certain points since then, we should not blindly trust those who make the decisions. Scrutiny is a good thing.

But, there’s no doubt the developments are well timed, and good ones. As confirmed to BBC Radio Manchester last month, shares couldn’t be sold without approval of the other party, so now Anderson has the lot, it potentially gives the club a platform, and there can be movement in finding further investment. Wages are due and money is needed to stem the losses to get through to the end of the season. Anderson has put money in when needed, like an overdraft facility, he could do that again, or there could be the chance of external investment.

Whatever happens, it would be great if we could just talk and write about more actual football in the coming months and years. Hopefully, this is the first step to that.
