Bolton have had bid for Lavante`s Mustapha Riga turned down. Riga may be available as a free agent later in the summer, if he succeeds in having his contract cancelled because of non payment of wages. With West Brom and Middlesbrough also interested, Gary Megson tried to gain an advantage by tabling an early offer.
After an encouraging start to the transfer window, things look to be reverting to a previous pattern with the Wanderers identifying and then failing to land their targets. Earlier in the month, a bid for Simon Vukčević was rejected by Sporting Lisbon.
The latest set back may be a blessing. There are already 942 Mustapha jokes in circulation. Any more would probably be unbearable.
