Many of us can agree that Liam Trotter has failed to impress thus far in his time at Bolton. Criticism include that he doesn’t get around the pitch enough, plays useless passes, is poor in the air, weak for such a big guy and just generally looks slightly out of it.
Well given the summer departure of current club captain’s Jay Spearing and Matt Mills looking somewhat likely, Trotter has been named as the Wanderers’ captain and will don the armband for the remaining two years of his contract.
It is believed that Lennon rates Trotter highly, as he had been a target of his during his Celtic days (though, most people were). However, this decision still comes as a bit of a surprise given his lack of playing time and popularity among Bolton fans.
One could maybe think that this added responsibility would help Trotter step things up a gear?
We managed to catch an interview with Trotter this morning. He said ‘Bolton Wanderers are my life. Every morning I live, drink and sleep Bolton Wanderers. This is a terrific achievement and one that I am incredibly proud of. I will wear that captain’s armband with pride.’
Anyway, Captain Trotter it is then!
