The performances from our development squad players, must be making Dougie wonder

The appalling start to the season for Bolton Wanderers, you would assume, has had a profound effect on everyone associated with the club. From bigwigs to supporters, the Whites` recent fall from grace has, I`m sure, been devastating to many who deem themselves a Wanderer.

While the first-team stutters and makes headlines for all the wrong reasons, the future of the club continues to make a noise just below the surface.

Jaime Fullerton`s development side were in Lytham yesterday playing a Blackpool B side which boasted 4 first-teamers? and they got trounced. A trouncing for a Bolton team these days would be anything over a 2-0, but Fullerton`s lads put 7 past the Seasiders, led by our scoring hot-shot, Conor Wilkinson.

The boy- taken from Millwall- scored a hat-trick within 45 minutes of play and bagged his fourth just after the break.

I know it`s only the development squad and the effort put in from Blackpool`s boys- especially the first-team lads- may have been compromised, but you cannot help get excited for Wanderers` future with players like Wilkinson on the books.
Conor obviously looks to be blossoming, especially under the stewardship of Fullerton, with the presence of Freedman, but he isn`t the only performer catching the eye.

As Wilkinson ran away in celebration of his hat-trick, I read, Tom Youngs had signed his first senior contract. The forward who rose from Eddie Davies` academy, signed a two-year deal.

Congratulations, Tom, Conor and all the boys for your efforts. With players like you coming through, who obviously want to play for Bolton Wanderers, the future can only look bright for the club we all love. I`m sure, with our current ‘stars` ‘playing` the way they are, it won`t be long before you`re sniffing around the first-team.

For me, it can`t come soon enough?
