More gossip for you today with regards to our takeover

I’ve read all sorts from different sites today many of whom have done a wonderful job tracking this all down and getting it published. I’ll re-iterate that in this instance, we do not have any insider knowledge and I’m just going off what is already in the domain.

To start off with, it turns out that Amir Khan is getting involved. Along with many other Wanderers fans I personally love King Khan and am proud of the way he has represented Bolton throughout his career. However, contrary to what has been hinted by some, it looks like he will not be investing in the club- rather some of his fights will take place in the great Macron Stadium. However, while this isn’t the type of news many fans were looking forward to today it 1) gets a bit of money into the club (I know it’s not enough to clear off what nears £200 million in debt but it’s decent money) and 2) helps to reverberate the feel good factor around the club. Khan is a Bolton icon and legend and it’s nice to see some positivity again.

To link to that positivity, I believe it was Match of the Day who recently posted our top 10 Premier League goals which brought back some amazing memories of the likes of Gary Speed, Jay Jay Okocha and Kevin Nolan. I’ve no idea how Gretar Steinsson and Mark Davies didn’t feature, but oh well.

The next big talking point is that it is rumoured that Eddie Davies will write off all of the club’s debt, should he receive an offer of 20 million to buy the club. The Telegraph reported that here

If that is true, then that will really silence all those who have criticised Davies in the past. Many of them having called for him to do this if ‘he really is a Bolton fan’. Well, I’m pretty sure that the moment he started investing millions of his own earned money into the club that he supported us, but anyway, what a gesture that would be.

In life there is something called not being able to afford to pay anymore. That is the position Eddie Davies is in and it is a fact that we cannot afford to pay transfer fees or mid-high Championship wages. He simply cannot afford to- he’s not being cheap. He invested a lot in the likes of Marvin Sordell and David N’Gog and paid astronomical wages on top of hefty transfer fees. We also invested heavily to get back up with the likes of Kevin Davies, Chris Eagles, Marcos Alonso and Martin Petrov playing in the Championship. These were fruitless investments and really drained Eddie’s already depleted pockets.

We owe him an enormous debt of gratitude, as Brett Warburton has said. If the talk of him being willing to wipe off all of our debts is true, then even better.

The last few days have seen a club in deep deep deep financial trouble to potentially becoming a club that, really, is doing quite well. However, much has to happen for that to be the case and we can only hope.
