BWFC: Back To The Football

Apparently there’s a game this Saturday. Jack Crosland reminds us

With all the talk of takeovers and the new investors, the end of Phil Gartside`s reign and the return of controversial King Kahn to the Macron it`s easy to forget we have a football team to worry about. Granted it has been nice to be distracted from the football given our precarious position but on the pitch it is a pivotal time in the season for Neil Lennon`s men.

With our away form quite simply diabolical I have to salute any travelling Wanderers making the trip down south. Will their trip prove a happy one? Our depressingly predictable form screams no but the Dean Holdsworth fuelled renewed optimism in me screams yes! Bolton have at least looked more solid after consecutive 0-0 draws at Preston and at home to Bristol City which gives us a chance but Lennon will be relying on a miracle in the form of our inept strike force mustering a goal between them. There is a possibility that with all the talk of takeovers and a lack of any incomings for the time being there will be a reaction in the camp in the form of 3 points. If I`m honest if I was offered a 0-0 now I`d bite your hand off.

Following this we are faced with back to back home games against Brentford and Cardiff City which, in my opinion, are huge games for The Whites in terms of how this season will pan out. By the time we play the games we could have new owners and the structure of the club may have changed, however in the worst case scenario we could have an owner no longer paying for anything and takeover talks continuing to drag on. If the latter is the case then a minimum of 4 points is an absolute must or it could be a long, long season. I would look towards Max Clayton for inspiration in order to turn the rotten form around, especially at home. It`s no secret we need goals and it`s no secret we won`t be signing anyone for the foreseeable so we have to deal with what we`ve got. I`d argue Max Clayton is the most creative player in the squad at present and a top performance from him could just be the spark we need to get the ball rolling.

In a perfect world the takeover will be done and dusted as soon as possible but, if not, on the pitch we need to plough on to give the new owners the best chance of changing our fortunes when they eventually do come, it`s been hard to ignore the takeover but in times like this the players need to carry on doing their job, in all departments – it`s a big few weeks for Bolton Wanderers.
