BWFC: Erasing The Past

Tyrone Mears may soon be a name of the past

Not only did the month of October signify a year in charge for Dougie Freedman at the Reebok, it also signified the club`s 12 month liberation from Owen Coyle.

I must admit, the longer time has elapsed since Coyle`s sacking the more contempt I feel for our former manager. The championing for Coyle`s sacking amongst some of you commenters was happening way before the axe finally fell. I- unbelievable as it seems to me now- was not one of them. The time he spent as a Whites` player, which seemed still fresh to me at the time, was obviously clouding my judgement. Coyle left the team and club in a mess- and it was all his doing.

Yes, Gartside appointed him, but this was Coyle`s team. The spineless defence, the gutless midfield and the toothless attack were all thanks to the short-wearing Glaswegian.

Things wouldn`t have been so bad had Coyle come in for some of HIS players after he was appointed manager at Wigan. Some of the things that happened at Bolton Wanderers during Owen`s tenure were unprecedented. I`d have understood if some of our players- especially some of the top earners or players that demanded the highest transfer fees- just needed a change of scenery or circumstance to exorcise the demons and rediscover their form. But it didn`t happen. Coyle obviously didn`t back or believe in his old signings, thus leaving the club- who he supposedly loves- with HIS overpaid, underperforming dross.

He didn`t even come in for Chris Eagles, who had been his player since 2008.

No, Coyle left his mess for somebody else to clean up, without even an apology.

Slowly- very slowly- Coyle`s legacy is being erased and the news coming out of the Reebok today is testament to that.

Tyrone Mears is said to be on his way out of the Reebok? and if Dougie apparently gets his way, it will be sooner rather than later.

Mears` contract is up in the summer and he has already been ordered to practice with the development squad. Dougie has recently spoke of his desire to bolster the Whites` attack before the current loan window closes and Mears` premature release from his current deal may be triggered to fund such recruitments.

If Tyrone is relieved from his Wanderers` duties, there won`t be many disgruntled voices amongst the Reebok faithful and it would be another brushstroke in erasing Coyle`s failed artwork.

Some fans may not notice Mears has gone at all.
