Former England striker Emile Heskey has said he’s hoping to take his first real steps into the world of coaching in his second season at the Macron.

With his new 12 month contract all but signed, 38 year old Heskey explained to the Bolton News that next season he was hoping to use our facilities to get himself on track with his coaching career as he maybe looks for a future in management when he hangs up his boots.

In contract negotiations the club have made it clear they are happy to aide him in that quest, and Heskey also plans on starting on the new FA backed coaching scheme that’s coming into play next year.

‘I haven`t got coaching badges at this time but it is something I`m probably going to do next year, during the season. You can do it in the afternoons, in training, and it`s good to do it while you`re actually playing because you have all the facilities. You don`t need to find 15 kids to put on a session – they`re already there for you.’

Since coming into the club many have praised him for the elder statesman role he’s taken on with the youngsters already, so it’s a pretty logical step for him to take.

But that doesn’t mean his playing days are over just yet.

‘I`m here at Bolton to play but I might as well use the expertise and the people I`ve got around me. The gaffer has been great and I know Parks (Gary Parker) from playing alongside him and he`s the kind of person who could help me make that next step. Coaching might be something I look into doing somewhere down the line so I`ll use my time next season wisely.’

As for his first year at Bolton, having had to wait patiently for a deal when he returned from his spell in Australia after leaving Aston Villa, Heskey said he was loving life at the club so was pleased to get a new offer.

‘I’ve had a great time. The fans have been terrific with me, so have the players. Things haven’t always gone according to plan on the pitch but hopefully now the gaffer will be able to go away, re-jig things in the squad and make sure we come back and have a more successful time next year. He will want improvement. I guarantee that.’
