No Bogdan Deal….Yet

Adam Bogdan was someone that Bolton were thought to be keen to tie down to a new contract, but this isn’t going to be happening.

Not yet anyway….

Dougie Freedman confirmed to the Bolton News on Monday that any talks over a new contract with Wanderers are being put on hold so the club can ‘gauge where a player is mentally’ before talks open.

Rumours have linked the 26-year-old to clubs in England and across Europe with Fulham and Mainz among those ‘keeping a close eye’ on how things unfold with the Hungarian international ‘keeper.

Freedman is well aware what can happen with a player in the final year of their contract, he definitely doesn’t want a repeat of what happened with the likes of Marcos Alonso but also feels that adding contract talks to the mix can complicate an already complex situation.

If it comes to it, next summer when his contract ends the boss says: ‘We’ll either shake his hand and he’ll move on, or he’ll sign a new deal.’

Financial Fair Play rules now in place make it all the more important to budget accordingly and Freedman knows it is a juggling act, which is one he thinks Wanderers fans are starting to understand and appreciate knowing that he is doing what is best in the long-term interests of the club, even if it doesn’t always suit the player….

Mr Ecky sends his best to the Vital Bolton community, he’s currently not well, he’ll be back as soon as possible and in the meantime, he’s got a staff writer to fill in for him.

If anyone has something to share in the meantime (this gives a genuine Bolton point of view from a Bolton fan!) feel free to fire an email through.

Please include your username so I can put that to it though.
