Not All Footballers Are Money Grabbers!

Those words, ‘not all footballers are money grabbers’ as well as ‘they do possess humanity’ were some that pensioner Brian Armitage shared with the Manchester Evening News after Craig Davies came to the aide of him and his wife Jennifer recently when they had ran out of petrol.

Bolton striker Davies played the ‘good Samaritan’ recently as he went to the aide of the pensioners – not only did he go and get them petrol, which he didn’t ask for payment for, he then filled up the tank and made sure they got away safely.

I know, I know, some will say ‘he earns enough money not to ask the pensioners to cover the petrol costs’ but well paid or not he was under no obligation whatsoever to do what he did and you have to tip your cap to him.

You can rest assured a good few ‘passers by’, arguably better paid than Davies I might add, wouldn’t have stopped let alone helped and then gone and got them petrol too! Even if they had I wonder how many would have declined being reimbursed?

As fate would have it, Mr Armitage is also a lifelong Bolton fan and season ticket holder, they bumped into Davies again at Tesco with them speaking very highly of him.

‘We got Craig a box of chocolates for his troubles. We were taking them and the letters to the club when we happened to see him in Tesco’s. He recognised us both straight away and we recognised him. Craig was absolutely brilliant and a really pleasant chap.

‘It just shows that not all footballers are money grabbers and that they do possess humanity.’

Neil Lennon added: ‘It is a great story and a fantastic gesture by Craig. It puts him and the club in a very good light. He is well trained!’

Well played Mr Craig Davies, stand up and take a bow as you deserve it and whatever positive publicity you get -any this can bring this Football Club is of course welcomed too….
