Gabe’s back off his holidays with his verdict on the Wanderers players and the ref

Ben Alnwick (6)
Satisfying performance from the backup keeper after a shaky start against Peterborough. Looked confident on the ball, although he was never tested from a woeful Millwall attack missing Steve Morison, which suggests how good of a performance it was from the Wanderers defence.

Lawrie Wilson (6)
Nothing pretty but it was good enough. Having looked all over the place last weekend it was a much comfortable performance from the right back.

Although his crossing was poor it was the defensive effort that pleased me. Kept his man quiet and showed real determination to carry Whites over the line

Derik Osede (7)
To think that Derik Osede is used a replacement for David Wheater gives me real confidence. I personally think that with the quality that Derik possesses it shouldn`t be wasted on the sidelines.

Derik just has that awareness to pick out a pass and the pace he has, gives us a real benefit in the defensive half. His quality shone in the second half and has surely guaranteed himself a starting spot for the Coventry game.

Mark Beevers (8)
Back to his best, commanded the game and kept Lee Gregory, one of the most experienced strikers in League One quiet in the first half. Used his height to his advantage and looked comfortable all game.

Andrew Taylor (7)
Moxey may as well leave now. A brilliant performance from Taylor and I see no coming back now for Moxey.

Realised the frustration from the Wanderers faithful when space started appear on the left hand flank and he failed to exploit. He instantly responded with a variety of fantastic crosses that led to panic in the Millwall backline. Defensively looks solid, he puts Moxey to shame.

Jay Spearing (8)
What a phenomenal performance from Spearing today! His performance makes you realise how much we have missed him in recent weeks. Passion, determination and a real desire to win.

Produced the moment of the match when he went into a 50/50 to then win it get back up and then go in full throttle to another challenge to leave the Millwall player stranded on the floor. Remarkable.

A typical ‘Jay Spearing` performance really, it`s great to have him back!

Liam Trotter (5)
A bright first 45 minutes from Trotter but still isn`t the real quality midfielder we need in a central midfield position.

Having said that, he worked hard and played his part. Unlucky not to get a goal but being prevented by the offside flag. A shame to see him go off with injury but I wasn`t that disappointed to hear he wouldn`t be coming back on.

Josh Vela (9)
Stunning performance from Vela. Scored an absolute beauty, an outside of the boot thunderbolt, deservedly winning ‘Goal of the Day` on Sky Sports. Ran his socks off and showed real urgency to close down the Millwall backline.

Vela really suits the attacking midfield position and his hard work was topped off by a deserved goal. Man of the match for me, a very hard decision though

Zach Clough (7)
Another good performance from youngster. He stretched the Millwall defence and was very unlucky to not get a goal, only to be prevented by some good goalkeeping by the Millwall goalkeeper.

More performances like that and the goals will come.

Gary Madine (6)
Worked hard but just lacked that cutting edge. A lot of his good work goes unseen because he does contribute to the team. All that`s missing is the goals but I`m sure they will come if he keeps getting himself in the right places.

I`m still fairly convinced that he is a much better option than Jamie Proctor.

Sammy Ameobi (7)
Fairly quiet in the first half but when he did receive the ball he looked a threat. That`s my only problem with Ameobi, he needs to be more involved with the game.

The second half was much improved and he ran the show. He pulled out some fabulous tricks and gave the fans a bit of something to cheer about.

Tom Thorpe, sub (8)
A very positive second half display from the loanee. Took his goal very well with a great header that rifled into the top of the net.

Looked solid defensively but also played some delightful balls out wide. Similar to Spearing, got stuck in and protects the defence very well. Personally, I would much rather have him in the team than Trotter

Ref Watch- Paul Tierney – (7)Overall a good refereeing display. Finally a referee that doesn`t allow defenders to shove and push Madine all over the place without punishment. Mostly made the correct decisions on both parts.

However the only criticism I have is in the first half there seemed to be a blatant push in the first half on Ameobi in the penalty area. Certainly from my angle it looked stone-wall. Apparently not from Mr Tierney`s view.
