Ahead of our tie with Chelsea, I discuss our chances

I did a more substantial preview with the editor of Vital Chelsea in the last post, so give that a read if you haven’t already.

So, Chelsea it is today… We’ll be playing against ‘Mr Mourinho’s’ team as Dougie would say. In that same interview he talked about how tough a fixture it’ll be before adding that we haven’t been unlucky, we’ve just been unfortunate.

Chelsea are a team that, to be honest, I like quite a lot. They’re one of my local clubs and I appreciate that while they do spend a lot of money, they don’t panic like Manchester City and United have done in recent windows.

Also, I can’t help not liking Mourinho despite my very best efforts. I’ve always liked to think of Dougie as the Mourinho of the Football League.

There’s something about the way he dresses and approaches press conferences that is somewhat reminiscent of the Portuguese master.

It is thought that ‘Mr Mourinho’ will be resting many of his better players for more competitive Premier League matches, but as Merlin of Vital Chelsea pointed out in the last post, he does take this competition quite seriously.

I’d love to see Drogba play, not only because I thin he’d improve our chances of winning, but also because I appreciate him tremendously as an athlete and love seeing him hustle defenders. Costa also ought to have a rest- my fantasy team could really do with a hat trick from their captain on Sunday.

Most of our players are from completely different worlds than their opposite numbers. Just think of Matt Mills duelling with the likes of Hazard. Andre Shurrle running at Dean Moxey. What about Owen Garvan taking a penalty at Cech… It just doesn’t really sound right.

Though, to be honest neither did Ronaldo running at Nicky Hunt did it? Back then we were doing brilliantly in the Premier League.

There’s something about players who may not be of the same pedigree of these world class players. They have a certain fight and desire to put their bodies on the line.

That’s what I expect from our players. They may not have the ability Oscar or Willian but they’ll get stuck in and who knows? Maybe we can pull off an upset.

I guess we can only hope…
