Why Could Have Sarcevic Made His Shock Exit?

|

In news you weren’t expecting today, we’ve let our club captain move to a club two divisions below us and he’ll probably play in the FA Cup against us in a fortnight.

Yes, Antoni Sarcevic has left for Stockport County. They of the National League.

It’s an utterly bizarre move. The transfer window doesn’t apply in the National League, which meant he could make the move now. He was also in the last year of his contract, but to move now, and drop two divisions is just weird.

Maybe it’s a financial offer he couldn’t refuse, while the Mail reports there was a massive bust-up between he and Ian Evatt after being dropped for the midweek trip to Plymouth Argyle and there wasn’t going to be a way it could be resolved. It’s not the first time he’s dropped a league to join a club, he did it to come from Argyle to us, and also to join Argyle, so he has previous as such. But with us, it was as much a geographical thing to move back to the North West. It must have been a blazing argument to go from being dropped to leaving the club in three days, so maybe there was more to it…

It’s a shame, because he’s popped up with a few important goals, seven last season, and managed three this season, the last coming against Shrewsbury a few weeks ago. He’s had tough moments this season, but has had his moments. I don’t know what happens next, does MJ Williams, Kieran Lee and Josh Sheehan become the new midfield three? Does this give more time for George Thomason or maybe even a recall for Dennis Politic?  Do we have room to get someone in January?

Meanwhile, Ricardo Santos has taken over as club captain, while Eoin Doyle remains vice-captain. It makes sense, with the defender arguably the first name on the teamsheet.
