After the delights of Lisbon, Bolton visit the slums of Wigan, a place where they’re regarded as football royalty.

Vital Quotes:

I’m sure he’s had a chat with his chairman and said, ‘Look, the Premier League is of vital importance.’ In management, the one thing you have to do is make decisions and it’s a big call, a big decision.

Steve Bruce sympathises with Mystic Megson`s team selection in the UEFA cup. Not that he`ll ever have to make that call. At least not while he`s manager of little Wigan.

Meanwhile, the clean up of the town continues. The tramps who comprise roughly half of the population have been rounded up and placed in a holding pen just off the M6. Throw them a pie if you’re passing.

Wigan Team News:

Hump a lump Heskey is available after fears that he`d broken another foot proved groundless, but on-loan striker Marcus Bent is a doubt. Defender Andreas Granqvist is unavailable as he`s escaped back to Sweden. Sensible lad.

Player to watch: The Pitch

Referring to the patch of grass at the JJB as a ‘pitch` is something of an exaggeration, but until someone invents a better word it`ll have to do. The playing surface is so bad that you wouldn`t be surprised to see the odd cow pat on it. If there was any doubt that the stadium was built for Rugby, there isn`t now. An appeal to buy a roller is underway and has already raised £26.

Bolton Team News:

Jussi Jaaskelainen and Gretar Steinsson are doubtful.

Player to watch: Ivan Campo

Mainly because he’s funny. Odds of 3-1 are being offered on him falling into the trench that runs from one penalty area to the other. It’s worth a punt.

Match Facts & Stats
