With Bolton having secured two consecutive victories, progression to the next round of a cup competition and looking as if they know how to mount an attack occasionally, you`d think that now would be a good time for a spot of bridge building between the club and its supporters.

This reckons without the input of Gary Megson, a man with the PR skills of Attila the Hun.

‘An opinion without any consequence is an opinion. An opinion with consequence ? that`s a decision,` he told the Bolton News.

‘We make them. Most people don`t. They should have all these phone-ins before kick-off but they don`t.`

The Ginger One was speaking in defence of Birmingham City boss Alex McCleish, who was criticised by fans after the defeat on Saturday, but the implication that the Reebok faithful should pay their money and then shut up, was clear.

A section of Bolton followers didn`t want Megson in the first place and weren`t prepared to cut him any slack, whatever the results. But it`s hard to condemn those people when the man himself is equally intransigent.
