Overly Optimistic!

I admire optimism, I do try to be a glass half full as opposed to glass half empty type of person but I wouldn’t have thought that I’m alone in thinking that Liam Feeney is perhaps a tad too optimistic with what he’s told the Bolton News!

Defeat to Watford, as our defence continues to creak and concede goals all of a sudden – having lost that four-three, leaves us well off the top six and down in 15th place in the Championship. We’re still looking a good bet for safety but much closer to the relegation zone than the play-offs.

Feeney concedes that it’ll take ‘something special’ to overturn a 16-point gap but he’s still got an eye on a late play-off surge.

‘It will take something special from us (to make play-offs) but it can happen.

‘There are often teams that come late. You never know in this league how it is going to pan out. You can’t say who is going to win week to week.

‘We could easily go 15 games unbeaten and who knows where that may take us? There are 45 points still to play for.’

Four-points from the last five-matches doesn’t make 45-points from the next 15 that realistic does it? To have even the slightest chance you feel we’ve literally got to win all 15-matches that we have left and that isn’t too likely is it!

Our best bet, for me, is to finish this season positively and strongly and that gives us the best chance possible that Neil Lennon can retain the key components to this squad and then mount a serious promotion push next season.

Bolton’s season is far from over and ‘going through the motions’ isn’t what we want but we’ve got to remain realistic….
