Joe Riley has been sent out on loan by Dougie Freedman in a six-month loan deal to league 2 outfit Oxford United.

Riley’s Bolton career, which looked so very promising when he broke into the first-team as a teenager, has stalled somewhat in recent years.

In fairness to the now 22-year-old injuries can’t always be helped can they and a serious knee injury last pre-season set him back a season with injuries not helping him with his development and progress so the right back going out on loan probably isn’t a bad thing.

Half a season of regular, competitive, first-team football under his belt should do Riley the power of good, even if it is decided in January that an extension might be for the best that shouldn’t mean that his future lies away from Wanderers does it?

Football is what Riley needs, in theory this is a good move isn’t it? What do you think?

Mr Ecky sends his best to the Vital Bolton community, he’s currently not well, he’ll be back as soon as possible and in the meantime, he’s got a staff writer to fill in for him.

If anyone has something to share in the meantime (this gives a genuine Bolton point of view from a Bolton fan!) feel free to fire an email through.

Please include your username so I can put that to it though.
