Some might say the January transfer window was disappointing for Bolton. But that`s nothing new. No striker, no much-needed influential midfielder. It could be worse. Remember David Thompson and Oscar Perez? Here`s what Owen Coyle didn`t miss.

Stuart Holden – Scottish born Holden was a free agent having left Houston Dynamo in the summer. Houston were keen to keep him, but Holden, who has twelve full caps for the US national side, was keen to try his luck again in the English league after a previous unsuccessful spell with Sunderland.

Jack Wilshere – Who`d have thought it? An Arsenal player joining Bolton on loan. Perhaps the Gunners are feeling guilty at using the current rules to full advantage in luring away centre-half Kyle Bartley, who is now doing well at the Emirates.

Owen Coyle rates the young midfielder highly .’Jack is a talented, young, hungry player who I think has got a bright future ahead of him,’ He has got an abundance of quality and he will enhance our squad,` said the Bolton boss.

Vladimir Weiss – Not the first person with that name to earn his living from football. His Granddad was a former Czechoslovakia international, who Sam Allardyce is trying to sign for Blackburn.

His dad is head coach of the current Slovakian national team. The Weiss squad you might say.

The younger Weiss is well thought of at Manchester City but can`t get in the team, because they`ve signed all the players who didn`t want to join the top four. He has six full caps for Slovakia and is keen for first team football in order to enhance his chances of playing in the World Cup.

A trio of speculative signings for Bolton. Who is the best one? Vote now in the latest Vital Bolton poll.
